Two Years Of Studio Eighty 4: What Business Ownership Has Taught Me

More than haircuts. A journey of growth, resilience, trust and community in Travancore.

Two years ago, Studio Eighty 4 was simply an idea. Today, it has become a place where thousands of conversations, fresh haircuts, friendships and memories have been created.

When people see a barber shop, they often see the finished result — the chairs, the mirrors, the lighting, the atmosphere and the haircut.

What they do not always see are the early mornings, late nights, uncertainty, risk and countless small decisions that happen behind the scenes.

As Studio Eighty 4 celebrates its second anniversary, this milestone is not only about business. It is about growth, trust and the people who helped build this journey.

Success Looks Different Than I Expected

When I first opened Studio Eighty 4, I thought success meant being fully booked. Over time, I realised success means something much bigger.

Success is watching a client walk through the door for the first time and then seeing them return month after month.

Success is hearing someone recommend your business to a friend. Success is building trust.

Those moments matter far more than numbers.

Success is not measured only by haircuts. It is measured by trust.

Every Client Has Helped Build This Shop

A small business is never built alone.

Every haircut booked, every review written, every recommendation shared and every conversation had in the chair has helped shape Studio Eighty 4 into what it is today.

For that, I am incredibly grateful.

Many clients have become familiar faces. Some have supported the shop since the very beginning. Others discovered us only recently. Each person has played a part in this journey.

The Hardest Part Of Business Ownership

The hardest part is not cutting hair.

The hardest part is carrying responsibility.

  • Responsibility for the business
  • Responsibility for clients
  • Responsibility for the experience
  • Responsibility for making decisions every day

There are moments of uncertainty that most people never see. But those moments are also what create growth.

Every challenge teaches something valuable.

Growth

Learning every day, improving every detail and building something meaningful over time.

Trust

Creating a space where clients feel comfortable, understood and looked after.

Community

Being supported by clients from Travancore, Ascot Vale, Moonee Ponds and Melbourne.

Why I Still Love What I Do

After two years, my favourite part remains the same: meeting people, learning their stories and helping them feel more confident when they leave the chair.

A haircut might last a few weeks. The confidence it creates can last much longer.

That is something I never take for granted.
